FAQ & Tips
Frequently asked questions and useful tips for getting the most out of Braincandy.
Frequently Asked Questions
General
Why do I have to verify my age?
Braincandy serves adult content from Reddit. The age verification gate is a legal requirement to ensure users are 18 or older. The verification is stored in your browser's localStorage, so you only need to confirm once per browser.
Is my data stored anywhere?
- Configuration: Stored only in your browser's localStorage and encoded in the URL — nothing is sent to a server
- Reddit content: Fetched via a server-side proxy, but no media is stored on Braincandy's servers
- Local files: Never leave your computer — they are loaded as blob URLs in the browser
- Favorites: Stored in localStorage only — they are not uploaded anywhere
- Analytics: Only collected if you explicitly consent to analytics cookies, and only in production
Can I use Braincandy on mobile?
Yes, but with limitations:
- The local folder picker does not work on mobile browsers
- The player grid works best with 1–4 screens on mobile
- The beat meter may overlap with media cells on smaller screens
- Keyboard shortcuts (spacebar) are not available
Which browsers are supported?
| Browser | Supported | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome | ✅ Full support | Recommended — includes folder picker |
| Edge | ✅ Full support | Includes folder picker |
| Firefox | ⚠️ Partial | No folder picker support |
| Safari | ⚠️ Partial | No folder picker support |
Media & Playback
Why are some media items not loading?
This can happen for several reasons:
- The Reddit post was deleted after Braincandy fetched it
- The image host is blocking hotlinking (imgur links are auto-filtered for this reason)
- The media URL has expired (common with Redgifs)
- Your internet connection is slow or unstable
When a media item fails to load, the screen automatically skips to the next item.
Why do I see the same media items repeating?
Media items only repeat after the entire pool has been exhausted. If you have a small number of subreddits selected or the subreddits have limited content, the pool will cycle faster.
To avoid seeing repeats:
- Add more subreddits
- Use "All Time" + "Top" sorting for maximum content
- Increase the subreddit diversity with presets
Can I watch videos at my own pace?
Yes! Videos and Redgifs play with custom controls — click anywhere on the video to play/pause, use the progress bar to seek, and adjust volume with the volume slider. They do not auto-advance while playing — only after the video ends naturally or you click skip.
What happens when I skip a video?
The skip counter is incremented, and the next media item is loaded. The video stops immediately.
How does the media pool work?
- All media from all sources is combined and shuffled
- Each screen pulls items from the front of the pool
- Displayed items are moved to a "used" list
- When the pool is empty, the "used" list becomes the new pool
- This ensures every item is shown before any repeats occur
Why are imgur links filtered out?
Imgur blocks direct hotlinking from third-party sites, which causes images to fail loading. To avoid broken images, all imgur URLs are automatically filtered out during the fetch process.
Configuration
How do I share my configuration with someone?
Simply copy the URL from your browser's address bar. The URL always contains your current configuration encoded as a Base64 query parameter. Anyone who opens the link will get your exact setup (screens, speed, subreddits, filters, etc.).
My settings disappeared — how do I get them back?
Your settings are stored in localStorage. They will be lost if you:
- Clear your browser data / cookies
- Use a different browser
- Use private/incognito mode (data is cleared when the window closes)
To prevent this, bookmark the URL (which contains your configuration) or note down your settings.
Can I use Braincandy without Reddit?
Yes! You can use Braincandy with:
- Local files only — Pick a folder from your computer
- Playlist files only — Upload a JSON or XSPF file with media URLs
- Any combination of the above
You need at least one media source and one enabled media type to start a session.
What is the difference between "Source Rotation" and "All Mixed"?
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Source Rotation | Alternates between subreddits in round-robin fashion. If you have Sub A, Sub B, and Sub C, the order is: A1, B1, C1, A2, B2, C2, etc. This ensures equal representation. |
| All Mixed | All items from all subreddits are pooled together and shuffled randomly. Subreddits with more content will naturally appear more often. |
Fapstats App Integration
Do I need a Fapstats App account to use Braincandy?
No. The Fapstats App integration is entirely optional. You can use Braincandy without an account. The tracking feature is only available on the session statistics page after ending a session.
What data is sent to the Fapstats App?
When you create an activity, the following is sent:
- Date, time of day, activity type, rating, duration
- Selected partners, toys, tags, locations (from your Fapstats App account)
- Orgasm counts
- Notes (which may include session stats and favorite URLs)
Your media content (images, videos) is never uploaded to the Fapstats App. Only the URLs of your favorites are included in the notes field.
Can I track a session multiple times?
No. After successfully creating an activity, the form is replaced with a success confirmation. You cannot submit the same session again. To track another session, start and complete a new session.
Tips & Tricks
Maximize Content Variety
- Select multiple presets to build a large subreddit pool
- Use "All Time" + "Top" sorting for the most content
- Add custom subreddits beyond the presets
- Enable all four media types
Optimize for Your Screen
- Single monitor: Use 1–4 screens for the best visual experience
- Ultra-wide monitors: 6 or 8 screens work well
- Multiple monitors: Open Braincandy on one monitor while doing other tasks on another
Use the Settings Bar During Playback
- Click any of the 5 settings icons in the top bar to adjust settings without leaving the player
- Reduce screens to focus on a single item, then increase again for variety
- Toggle pixelation on and off to add a challenge element
- Adjust speed when you want to slow down or speed up the image rotation
- Change media types to filter out categories you're not interested in
Use the Beat Meter Effectively
- Set a narrow BPM range (e.g., 60–120) for a consistent pace
- Set a wide BPM range (e.g., 30–480) for maximum variation
- Mute the beep if you prefer visual-only cues
- The beat meter's intelligent progression will gradually increase intensity over time
Keyboard Shortcuts
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Spacebar | Toggle pause/resume |
Share Configurations
Create a "favorite" setup and bookmark the URL. You can maintain multiple bookmarks for different configurations (e.g., "Quick 1-screen", "Party 9-screen", "Long session with beat meter").
Use the History Feature
Don't worry about accidentally skipping a good item. Each screen maintains its own history, and you can use the Back button to revisit previously shown media at any time.
Pixelation Tips
- Enable pixelation during the session via the settings bar for a "reveal" effect
- On the session statistics page, use the pixelation toggle in the favorites header to blur favorites when reviewing in non-private environments
- A lower pixelation level means more blur (fewer pixels), a higher level means less blur
